A Confidence Builder
Two bunkers left, pot bunker closer to the green. Moderate undulations on the green.
"From the back tees, you can take a nice poke to the middle of the fairway — which is wide open. Standing in the tee box, aim to the right."
The Course
96 acres. 18 holes. Par 71. Rolling mounds, generous fairways, water in play on seven holes — and the only island green in Sacramento.

Hole by Hole
The course plays a modest 6,158 yards from the tips — but Perry Dye stitched in dogleg lies, tabletop greens, and pot bunkers that ask for precise shots on both nines. These are the seven your round will turn on.
Sacramento's only island green. A near-replica of Sawgrass 17.
"There's a pot bunker front right and a hump in the middle of the green. You can definitely see the Pete Dye influence."

"From the back tees, you can take a nice poke to the middle of the fairway — which is wide open. Standing in the tee box, aim to the right."
Fairway meanders through gentle peaks and valleys. Left is out-of-bounds.
"If you can make a really great drive here, you might get to the green in two. But going left is deadly — a boundary fence lines that side."
Fairway wraps around a large lake. Green has a hump and a tabletop in back.
"You can drive the green with the north wind, but you have to negotiate the lake — 300 yards of carry off the tee. Better to hit an iron into the fairway."
Water down the full right side. Green has a ridge in the middle.
"The biggest lake we have runs down the entire right side. Hit your driver just left of the fairway bunker and that puts you in perfect position."
Lake runs down the full right side. Green contoured around the water.
"You can miss to the left and the back with your tee shot and be OK. But you don't want to hit anything weak and right, or you're in trouble."
Dogleg left, water down the left edge. Forgiving miss short.
"You'll see Pete Dye's influence throughout the course. This hole is a gradual dogleg left with water on the left-hand side — stay slightly left here."
Scorecard
The scorecard is honest — the card doesn't pretend this is a 7,200-yard monster. It's a course that rewards accuracy over distance. The par-3 17th alone is worth the trip.

The Architect
Perry Dye began his apprenticeship under his father Pete at age 12. His grandfather designed and built a nine-hole course in Urbana, Ohio in 1922 — the start of the Dye legacy. Perry has shaped courses from Oak Tree in Edmond, OK to Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. Dye Designs has worked across Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Australia, Spain, Germany, Brazil, and Mexico.
At Bartley Cavanaugh, Perry tucked 18 holes into 96 acres along the river and signed his father's name into the 17th green.
