About
The youngest course in Sacramento's family.
Built in 1995 alongside the Sacramento River. Named for the city manager who turned down bribes. Laid out by Perry Dye.
The Course
Opened 1995. Sacramento's youngest municipal course.
Perry Dye — of the Dye family that built close to 250 courses worldwide — tucked 18 holes into 96 acres along the Sacramento River. Moderately sized greens with real undulations. Generous landing areas on young-tree-lined fairways. A rolling terrain with lots of mounds, unmistakably link-style.
The course measures just 6,158 yards from the tips, but Dye-family strategy turns that modesty into challenge: out-of-bounds down the left of the front, water in play on seven of 18, and the only island green in Sacramento at the par-3 17th.
"This facility is great. The clubhouse bar and cafe are very clean and the staff
is very friendly. The course is very well kept and fun to play."
Jeff P., Elk Grove

Who was Bartley Cavanaugh?
Bart Cavanaugh was Sacramento's city manager for 18 years. Born and raised in the city he served. His domination was such that those who might not know the name of the mayor knew the name of the city manager.
When city streets flooded, he would be out at 2 or 3 in the morning helping unplug the gutters. He was an intimate of governors and one of the closest friends of Earl Warren, the late Chief Justice of the United States.
One night, when an attempted bribe was made with a case of whiskey and $3,000 left on his doorstep, Bart turned the alcohol and cash over to the district attorney.
His integrity was legendary — he worked to close the doors to prostitution and gambling in the city. He was hard-working, honest, and fair. During his last ten years as city manager, Sacramento grew from 100,000 to 250,000 people. His father — also Bartley Cavanaugh — once lived on the farm that is now William Land Park.
The 18-hole course opened in 1995, named in his honor. He would have liked the 17th.
